«DrumPower Against Violence» – Scientific Evaluation

The project model has been continuously empirically evaluated in several studies since 2009.

The first two studies were conducted in cooperation with Peter Uffelmann (Competto consulting network) and the University of Innsbruck, Institute for Psychosocial Intervention and Communication Research, Prof. Dr. Arthur Drexler.

Further studies were conducted by Johanna Bosse, Julia Zerbe and Bernadette Bayrhof at the Institute for Music Therapy.

1st study 2009: Empirical impact analysis, combined study design (mixed methods)

  • quasi-experimental study with intervention classes and control classes (N = 80)
  • Instruments: standardized tests, projective test, questionnaires. 4 points of measurement.
  • Survey and qualitative evaluation of expert interviews (trainer and teacher).

2nd study 2010 /2011: Empirical impact analysis, combined study design (mixed methods)

  • quasi-experimental intervention study with intervention classes and control classes (N = 73)
  • Instruments: standardized tests, questionnaires. 3 measuring points.
  • Survey and qualitative evaluation of expert interviews (trainer and teacher).

3rd study 2012: process analysis

  • Qualitative study in an intervention class (N = 14)
  • Instruments: written survey of pupils and teachers

4th study 2016: evaluation study, qualitative study design

  • Qualitative study on DrumPower projects with unaccompanied minor refugees
  • Participant observation / observation questionnaire (participants)
  • Qualitative analysis of evaluation questionnaires (employees)
  • Collection and qualitative evaluation of feedback (employees)

5th study 2019: comparative study, qualitative study design

  • Comparative study of two intervention classes with different intervention concepts (»DrumPower« - »An own song for each class«) (N = 76)
  • Survey and qualitative analysis of evaluation questionnaires / written interviews (participants, parents, teachers)
  • Survey and qualitative evaluation of expert interviews (Trainer)
  • Participant observation
  • Systematic progress documentation

In addition, all DrumPower projects are subject to a basic evaluation with feedback from participants and teachers.
