«DrumPower» – Annual Report 2020

2020 was also a special year for us!
Since 1 May 2020, for the first time, half a post has been held at the Freies Musikzentrum München for the planning and implementation of the violence prevention project "TrommelPower against Violence", funded by the Cultural Department of the City of Munich. This enables us to offer the "TrommelPower" project method, which has been tried and tested for years, in a targeted and regular manner at Munich's funding, primary and secondary schools, thereby expanding the city's cultural offerings.
DrumPower Munich has been around since this year. The project is led by Dr. Andreas Wölfl and half of the position was filled by two music therapists Nelli Cardenas and Henrike Roisch. A team of DrumPower trainers in and around Munich, who independently carry out additional projects, will be there.

TrommelPower Munich - The new job
Nelli Cardenas (music therapist, concert singer) and Henrike Roisch (music therapist, sociologist) share the newly created position. Your tasks include the organization and implementation of projects at primary and secondary schools in Munich, contact with the schools, as well as networking with institutions and trainers in Munich and throughout Germany.

This year, together with the project manager Dr. Andreas Wölfl and the management of the Freies Musikzentrum München Felix Büchner, we created a new brochure for DrumPower Munich and the homepage was also revised in cooperation. Constantia Rosendorfer took over the design for both. As successor to Christian Ude, the Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter was won as the new patron.

The project formats were reconsidered in 2020. The new brochure offers three project formats that derive from our many years of project experience. A multi-week (half-year) project with at least 12 appointments of 90 minutes each. - Projects over a period of several weeks show a longer-term effect and effects of affect regulation, impulse control and strategies of conflict management and conflict resolution are more deeply anchored. - Furthermore, a short project on two days with 3 school hours per day, which can be easily integrated into everyday school life due to the shorttime and finally a taster offer of two hours to get to know each other.

Already in the summer we were able to carry out our first joint project at a support school and in the autumn four DrumPower projects began at Munich primary, middle and support schools.

Projects
Various projects were launched in Munich in 2020. Two projects with German classes of the Hildegard-von Bingen Primary School, a project at the Wittelsbach Secondary School with students of a 5th grade and another project with a final class of the promotionalschool Parzivalschule. At the primary school on Flurstraße, DrumPower projects were carried out with three third classes. However, all these projects have been interrupted due to the corona pandemic and will hopefully be able to continue in 2021. The project "one song for each class", which has been taking place for many years in cooperation with the Munich Philharmonic in the primary school on Flurstraße, had to be postponed until 2021.

In addition, other projects took place at the secondary school in Menkhofen and at the primary school in Aichach. While the project in Menkhofen could be completed, the project had to be postponed with a third class in Aichach until next year.

In Erlangen, the DrumPower projects, which have been taking place regularly for years, were interrupted by Corona with wonderful public performances. Two projects at the Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium with a 5th and 6th grade had to be interrupted after only three dates. At the Eichendorff secondary School in Erlangen, three projects with third grades were carried out. Unfortunately, the performances at Christmas, at the school assembly and on the Schlossplatz, which have been popular for years, could not take place here either.

DrumPower projects have also been in the context of the Hamburg Conservatory for several years now. Projects with refugee children and young people took place years ago and now also at the Lessing district school in Hamburg. The projects take place in international preparatory classes (IVKs). Another goal here is to learn the language by means of band and song work.

In Vienna, the DrumPower project planned by the University of Vienna for young people with a migrant background had to be postponed due to the pandemic. DrumPower Austria has offered projects in two kindergartens, an elementary school and individual elements of the DrumPower method have been implemented in a clinical context with therapy groups. The DrumPower project planned together with Verena Homna was postponed due to corona.

Trainees
Thanks to the many projects, we were able to offer internships to students from the music therapy and community music course this year. In addition to participating in the projects, they were able to participate in joint meetings, reflection and supervision and contribute their own ideas and impulses. Luckily, a first meeting with joint drumming and improvisation could take place at the Freies Musikzentrum München, albeit with mask and distance.

Professional supervision and supervision
All Munich projects are subject to professional support and supervision; in addition, this is provided, among other things, for a grammar school in Erlangen (Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium) and for its use in psychosomatics.

Training
TrommelPower Additional Qualification 2020 and 2021
Unfortunately, the training "TrommelPower" could not take place this year Corona due to this. The planning for a German-speaking and an international further education in the new year is pending. A first training week (basic seminar) will take place from Wed, 4 August to Sun., 8 August 2021.
